How Hurricane Ike is affecting local gas stations in Radford, Virginia

Hurricane Ike continues to affect gas prices in the United States.  I work at a gas at Radford University and it’s one of the only gas stations close to the campus who hasn’t run out of gas yet.  The owner of the Save-X gas station that I work at has had to continually bump up the price of gas this week.  Mid-grade is now priced at $3.99 a gallon at Save-X.  According to the owner of the Save- X gas station, Sheetz in this area has ran out of gas and hasn’t been fueling back up because of the price increase of gas.  Sheetz it waiting for gas prices to drop later in the week before letting the fuel trucks refill at the station.

Also according to the owner of the Save-X gas station the prices of gas should lower towards the end of the week.  I went by the local Exxon gas station today to put fuel in my car and their Mid-grade was also priced at $3.99.  Virginia isn’t the only state receiving fuel shortages and high gas prices.  At a gas station in Tennessee their Mid-grade fuel was priced as high as $4.79.  Many Save-X customers who were coming into the store were just relieved we were selling gas.  A few of the customers were about to run out of fuel because they were driving around in Radford looking for gas stations who even had gas.  The Liberty down the street from Save-X is unable to sell gas when it reaches the low of only 300 gallons according to one of the employees.  Save-X was still selling gas at only 300 gallons left but I noticed the gas pumps working a lot slower than normal.  Hopefully gas prices will start lowering by the end of the week and the local gas stations will start fueling up again to accommodate their customers.
